Several events planned for Glendive Celtic celebration

Plans for the 15th Annual Irish for a Day celebration are taking shape as organizers released a weekend schedule that is sure to please St. Patrick’s Day fans.

The weekend’s events begin on Friday, March 16 with a bagpiper performing at four locations. The first performance will take place  at the Dawson County Senior Center at noon. Next stop is the Glendive Medical Center Extended Care at 2 p.m. and the Eastern Montana Veteran’s Home at 3 p.m.

The Gallery will be the venue for Friday night’s events. Entertainment will include a bagpiper, scavenger hunt and a limerick contest. There will be Irish refreshments and hors’d oeuvres. The cost for the Gallery event is $10. Friday’s event will take place from 5-8 p.m.

The Southside Tavern will serve corned beef and cabbage on Saturday beginning at 4 p.m. 

The Mayor for the Day will also be crowned at the Southside at 5:30 p.m. This year’s candidates are Becky Titus, Erik Dion and Belinda Higbee.

The annual Pub Crawl will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the VFW. The crawl will continue north up Merrill Avenue to the Moose.

Glendive’s Big Night Out wraps up with music at two locations beginning at 9 p.m. BackPorch Entertainment will provide music at the Oasis and Doublebak will perform live at the Moose.

The Eastern Montana Celtic Committee and the Glendive Ice Foundation will be selling green items and t-shirts throughout the weekend. All profits will go to the John Haase Memorial Ice Rink.
