The Blue Devils had a busy weekend with two home games on Saturday and then a doubleheader in Dickinson on Sunday. In a Saturday afternoon twin bill the Blue Devils hosted the Billings Blue Jays. Glendive took the first game from the Billings team but fell in the second.  The Dickinson AA team swept the two games with the Devils on Sunday.

Anthony Berg pitched a complete game gem in a Blue Devil 1-0 win in the opener on Saturday. Berg allowed just three hits in the shutout victory. He walked three and struck out six over the seven innings.

Tai Sokoloski drove in the games only run with a single in the third inning. Richie Franks led off the third for the Blue Devils with a single and Josh Stickel followed with a base on balls. It looked like the Devils might have a good inning but a bunt attempt was popped up and Franks was doubled off of second base. Now with two outs Berg singled, moving Stickel to second. From here Sokoloski delivered the big two-out RBI single.

Berg had to work out of a sixth inning jam. He hit the first Blue Jay batter of the inning and then walked the second batter. Berg would  get out of the inning by inducing three consecutive ground balls, resulting in three outs.  The last out was a comebacker to Berg with runners on second and third. His throw over to Justin Pizano at first was in plenty of time for the final out.

In the seventh Berg looked very impressive. He struck out the first to Blue Jays he faced but then surrender a single into leftfield. Berg did not let this bother him as he came right back to record his third strikeout of the inning and end the game.

The start of the second game looked good for the Blue Devils as well. Cody Rossi started on the mound for Glendive. Billings did not score off Rossi in the top of the first and the Blue Devils picked up a pair of runs in the bottom half of the inning.  Unfortunately for the home team these were their only two runs of the contest.  The Jays erupted for seven runs in the second, added four more in the fifth and came away with an 11-2 decision over the Devils.

Rossi was the losing pitcher, allowing seven earned runs on six hits. He walked two and did not record a strikeout. Stickel pitched in relief.

Berg was 2-3 at the plate with an RBI double in the first. Sokoloski had an RBI single to drive in Berg. Trevor Berreth, Kacen French and Trey Sokooski each had a single in the game for Glendive.

The Glendive squad ran into a very strong offensive team in Dickinson on Sunday.  The Roughriders roughed up the Blue Devils in the two games by final counts of 13-2 and 9-0.

Berreth started the first game on the hill for Glendive and he was tagged with the loss. Stickel was 2-3 in the ballgame. Dickinson outhit Glendive 13-5 in the opener.

Franks was the starter and suffered the loss for the Devils in game two. Berg broke up a no-hit bid by the Dickinson pitcher with a two-out single in the seventh.

Blue Devil coach Brent Diegel had just 11 players make the trip to Dickinson.  Several players were gone for a football camp. Tuesday the Blue Devils hosted the Miles City Mavericks for a conference doubleheader.  They were again in action at home on Wednesday with two non-conference contests against the Powell Pioneers.
