The Glendive American Legion baseball club played a doubleheader on Tuesday against the Miles City Mavericks and then played a single game on Wednesday with the Powell Pioneers. All three games were home games for the Blue Devils out at Meissner Field and all three were wins for the Glendive squad.
The Blue Devils ended the first game with the Mavs early when they plated two runs in the fifth. These two runs made the score 12-2 and ended the game by the 10-run rule. Anthony Berg picked up the win for the Devils. Berg pitched a complete game with nine strikeouts.
Josh Hoffer pitched a complete game to lead the Blue Devils to a 4-2 win over the Mavericks in the nightcap. Hoffer surrendered just five hits. Over the seven innings of work he walked two and struck out two. Gunnar Garpestad was 2-4 with an RBI for the home team. Berg had one hit in two official at bats and he also drove in a run.
The Blue Devils and the Pioneers from Powell played a wild nine-inning affair on Wednesday. Glendive trailed 5-1 after just two and a half innings but battled back to pull off a 9-7 triumph over the team from Wyoming. Coach Brent Diegel used three pitchers over the nine innings. They combined to give up 11 hits and 12 walks but the offense did enough for the team to come away with the two-run win.
The Blue Devils are in Three Forks this weekend for the Gallatin Valley Outlaws’ tournament. They were scheduled to return home for a twin bill with Watford City on June 17. This has been changed to June 23.
