The Dawson County High School volleyball team locked up a spot in the Eastern/Central A Divisional Tournament with their second win over Laurel this season in Laurel, Saturday.

“We are getting stronger and stronger defensively. Very pleased with their progress … however, still working on consistency with our offense,” DCHS head coach Tiffaney Egan said.

Junior Addie Reinhart led the team with 11 kills to just five attack errors and scored six aces. Senior Taya Torres added eight kills to just one attack error and had four blocks to lead the team.

The Lady Devils hung around in the first set in Billings, Friday, falling 25-18, but the Lady Rams rolled in sets two and three, 25-15, 25-9.

Billings took away the attack lanes, as Glendive’s attack percentages were negative in the final two sets. The Lady Rams look like the team to beat in the East.

Sophomore Bailey Pearcy continued to be the best server for Dawson, scoring five of the team’s six aces. While Glendive served well, senior Hannah Bogar scored the team’s only block, and the Lady Devils had more attack errors than kills, 23 to 18.

Staiger led the team with six kills and added 14 digs. Reinhart led the defense with 15 digs, and Hill had 11 assists.

Hardin 3, Lady Devils 0

Glendive got better throughout its match in Hardin, Thursday, falling in straight sets, 25-16, 25-18, 25-20. Dawson had its highest attack percentage in the third set.

The Lady Devils were on the defensive, digging 68 Hardin spikes, with Reinhart scoring 15 digs, Staiger digging 11, Wyse digging 10, senior Miriam Mix had nine, and Hill and sophomore Thea Robson both added eight.

Staiger had eight kills to lead the team, and Pearcy had three aces. Wyse set her team up with 11 assists, and Hill added nine. No one had a block for DCHS, which Egan said is one thing the Lady Devils need to beat Hardin.

“We need to put up some blocks when we play Hardin,” she said. “Hardin has a strong defense and offense, however, they shut down when blocked a few times. We have the tools. We will be hitting this hard in practice.”
