Bobby “Bob” Edward Stinnett, age 84, passed away on Friday, Oct. 1, 2021 in his home in Glendive.

Bob was born on Sept. 15, 1937 to James Loyd and Virginia Lee Stinnett in Little Rock, Ark. In 1955 he graduated from high school in Memphis, Tenn. and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1957. He served as an Air Policeman in Texas and later in Montana at Glasgow Air Force Base. In 1962 he moved into the Air Force Reserve and worked as a police officer with the City of Glend i v e , security agent with a private company and Under Sheriff for Dawson County before returning to the AFB in 1969. Bob and his family spent seven years in Glasgow before returning to Glendive in 1976. Bob served in law enforcement for over 40 years, eventually retiring from the Dawson County Sheriff’s Department in 2003.

Bob believed life was best spent loving, giving, sharing and serving others and God. This philosophy was evident in his many years of service work including 50 years with the Glendive Masonic Lodge #31, a member of the Al Bedoo Shrine Club, the Scottish Rite and York Rite, and his dedicated service to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Bob was a proud father and an even prouder grandfather. He loved to support his grandchildren in athletics, music and other achievements. As a child, he wanted to grow up to be a cowboy or a hunter. In adulthood, he was an avid outdoorsman, eager to hunt and fish with family and friends. In retirement, he spent countless hours reading westerns and watching movies where “the good guys won.” Bob enjoyed leatherwork, whittling walking sticks, making antler mounts for friends and chews for his grandpups.

Bob is survived by his sons, Sandon (Jackie) Stinnett of Glendive and Russell (Amber) Stinnett of Havre; five grandchildren, Myles, Abigail and Adison Stinnett and Brett and Tayler Stinnett; great-granddaughter, Alieigha Whitright; honorary great-great-grandchildren, Zoe and Landon; as well as his nieces, nephew, great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Loyd and Virginia Stinnett; his siblings, David Stinnett and Bette Howard; his son, Robert Stinnett; Sally (Flynn) Stinnett; Marilyn (Willoughby) Stinnett; and Bonita ‘Boni’ (Stinnett) Dame.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, Oct. 7, 2021 at 11 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Glendive – anyone is welcome to attend. A luncheon reception will follow at the church. Memorials may be sent to the Glendive Senior Citizens’ Center in Bob’s name.
