Carmen Erlys Neard, age 84 of Glendive, Montana, passed away on Saturday, April 16, 2022 surrounded by family at her home. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, April 21, 2022, at the United Methodist Church of Glendive, with Pastor Avis Anderson officiating. Silha Funeral Home of Glendive has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Erlys was born on December 11, 1937 in Hannah, ND, to Carmen and Florence Hunt. She was raised and educated in Crosby, ND, graduating in 1956, where she was a majorette and played percussion in the band. After graduation she moved to Sheridan, Wyo., with her family.

While working at the local drug store in Sheridan, she served a soda to her soon to be husband Oakly Neard. On June 16th 1958, they were united in marriage, and spent time in Ellendale and Minot where Oakly was finishing his degree. While in Ellendale, they welcomed their first child Wendy, then moved to Sawyer, ND, where their son Aaron joined the family. A few years later they moved to Kaycee, Wyoming, where they resided for 21 years. While in Kaycee, she worked in the school library. After retirement they moved to Minot, ND, for 9 years, but eventually ended up in Glendive, MT, where they became a big part of their son Aaron’s and his children’s lives.

Erlys enjoyed being involved in civic activities, attending sporting events, musicals, church, being a part of the choir, and spending time with family and friends. You always knew she was present because of her sense of love for fashion. Erlys had a big heart and a trusted ear, people felt comfortable talking with her. She enjoyed her long talks, laughs and just being silly with all of her family.

She is survived by her daughter, Wendy Buck and her husband Poke of Bismarck, ND, one brother, Greg Hunt and his wife JoAnn of Glendive, MT, 6 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, grandson, and brother.
