Cliff was born on May 13, 1934 to Wilhelm and Sophia (Ballinsky) Mindt in Mandan, N.D. He was raised and educated in Glen Ullin, N.D. Following his education he received a very good job with Rural Electric, west of Hebron, N.D. This job later took him to Glendive where he has resided ever since. A couple of years after moving to Glendive, Cliff started working at the Courthouse Texaco service station, which he later managed and eventually owned, later managing the new City Center Texaco station where American Bank Center is now located on Merrill Avenue until he semi-retired in 1976. He continued working part-time doing odd jobs and handy man work around town until he officially retired in 1996.

Cliff was united in marriage to Laura Hoffer on June 3, 1954 in Hebron. To this union, seven children were born.

Cliff enjoyed woodworking, having built lots of beautiful projects. He also enjoyed horses and gardening, especially raising tomatoes. Every year he looked forward to bow hunting trips with Adam, Orville and the boys. The trips were always lots of fun, but they never filled the freezer. Cliff especially loved his family and his grandchildren, he was always fond of the newest members of the family.

Cliff was preceded in death by his parents; one son, James Mindt; four brothers, Ervin, Leon, Gordon and Gene Mindt; and one sister, Ella Caldwell.

Cliff is survived by his wife of sixty-five years, Laura Mindt of Glendive; one daughter, Mary (John) Kouba of Beach, N.D.; five sons, Vern (Connie) Mindt of Sidney, Wayne (Dianne) Mindt of Glendive, Dean (Shelly) Mindt of Glendive, Kenny (Marie) Mindt of Pasco, Wash. and Ryan Mindt of Great Falls; a whole bunch of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one sister, Vi Dittus of Washington; and numerous nieces and nephews.
