Bill McKibben

Northern Plains Resource Council will host bestselling author, educator, and climate leader Bill McKibben for an online event on Monday, October 5. The event, Turning the Corner on Climate Change, will be held over Zoom from 5 to 6 p.m.

The virtual gathering is free of charge and open to the public.

The evening will start with an overview of the climate crisis today, followed by a conversation highlighting organizing opportunities in Montana and beyond to protect soil, support clean energy initiatives, and promote a healthier climate.

“We are thrilled for Bill McKibben to share his insights and longtime organizing experience around climate change,” said Becky Mitchell, a Billings resident and Northern Plains board member. “Bill has been a leader on this issue for decades now, and we hope to gather as many Montanans as possible to discuss the urgent work of repairing our climate so that future generations can prosper.”

One of the leading American voices on climate change, Bill McKibben is the author of more than a dozen books on the environment. His 1989 book, The End of Nature, is widely regarded as the first book for a general audience about climate change. In 2008, McKibben helped found, the first global grassroots climate campaign.

“The impacts of climate change are being felt right here, right now in Montana,” continued Mitchell. “We have ranching members who have lost homesteads in wildfires and farming members who have lost entire seasonal crops due to massive storms in the last several weeks alone. These events are becoming more intense and more frequent.”

“If we work together, community by community across Montana, we can reverse the impacts of climate change to protect people’s health, build more resilient agricultural communities, and give our children and grandchildren the future they deserve,” Mitchell concluded. “This event provides an opportunity to discuss tangible ways to do all of these things.”

Turning the Corner on Climate Change: A Conversation with Bill McKibben is a virtual event that is free to attend and open to all. The event is October 5th from 5 to 6 pm MDT. To register and get Zoom information, go to bill-mckibben.
