The Dawson Buccaneers track runners Austin Rysavy and James Estey took to the track in the Blue Hawk Games at Dickinson State University to compete against ten other colleges last Friday. Austin ran the 1500m race and completed the race in 5:13.10. Austin expressed, “I felt our meet went very well. We had goals but did not quite reach them. Now I know what I need to do to reach my goal next time, and my hope is to run under 5:00 for the 1500m race. We ran our best and that is what counts in the end.”

James ran the 5000m race for the first time in competition and completed the 12.5 lap race in 18:45.97. James reflected on his race by saying, “Running the 5k was a new experience for me. I have never ran the event before. A lot of it was trial and just seeing how I felt during it. Overall, I think the season has been going pretty well. I have had a few disappointments from goals I set in the beginning, but after readjusting and setting more reasonable goals, it has been going much better. With one meet left, I am hoping to run it all out and get good marks for next season.”

Coach Ben Sandy shared, “Each week our runners keep getting stronger both mentally and physically, and the experience they are gaining is showing more and more with each race. Being a distance runner at the collegiate level is no easy feat, and both James and Austin are doing really well for their first college track season. During our season, we train to be our fittest at the end of the season, and I am excited to see how they do in two weeks when we return to Dickinson for our last meet.”
