David Percy Ryan, age 78, of Glendive passed away on Thursday, August 30, 2018 at the Billings Clinic in Billings.

Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, September 6, 2018 at Zion Lutheran Church in Glendive with Pastor Will Johnson officiating. Silha Funeral Home of Glendive has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Dave was born on January 9, 1940 in Minot, N.D. to Percy and Fern (Nelson) Ryan. He was raised and educated in Minot where he attended elementary and high school. Upon graduation he attended Minot Business School where he studied accounting.

On June 5, 1959 Dave married Josephine G. Swiss and to this union five sons were born. In 1976 Dave and Jo moved to Glendive where they have resided since. Dave worked for Hedahl’s for a time before he went to work for Truck Suppliers where he worked for thirty years. During this time he also owned and operated Ryan’s Lawn Service. Upon his retirement he went to work for Runnings as there was simply no slowing him down. He was a member of the Glendive Moose Lodge #949, a Deacon at Zion Lutheran Church, a Sunday School teacher and also a member of Glendive’s Promise Keepers. Dave was known and loved by many. His optimistic attitude was infectious and he was often sought out by his family for his encouraging advice. Dave’s glass was never half empty but always half full. He loved his family and was always there for them for whatever reason. We will forever miss his caring and compassionate concern.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Dennis; his favorite uncle, Rick Ryan; and by his faithful friend...his dog, Jake.

Dave is survived by his wife, Josephine, of fiftynine years; and five sons and their families: Darran (Karen) Ryan, Garran Ryan, Bill (Cassie) Ryan, Paul (Deb) Ryan, and Mike (Stephanie) Ryan; grandchildren: Jason (Cherisa) Ryan and Nicole (Ryan) Carson; Mark (Elisha) and James Ryan; Tasha (Ross) Mann, Josh, Chandler, and Chantal Ryan; Brita (Chris Engle) Ryan; and Cheyenne, Chase, and Caden Ryan; and great-grandchildren: Dominick and Alex Ryan; Eli Carson; Cameron, Addison, and Braylin Ryan; Alyssa Ryan; and Steven Mann. Dave also leaves three sisters, Fern Mae (Neil) Westergard, Eileen (Marvin) Huwe, and Betty Lou (Jerry) Means.

Five sons with five sentiments...Outstanding. Best Friend. Greatest. Outgoing. Understanding. That was our Dad.

If there ever comes a day when we can’t be together, keep me in your heart, I’ll stay there forever.
