DCC Softball Grabs Lead

in Sixth Inning to Defeat

NDSCS 2-1

Dawson took the lead late in the game in a 2-1 victory over North Dakota State College of Science on Saturday. The game was tied at one with Lady Bucs batting in the bottom of the sixth when Ashlyn Tingey hit a solo homer. The pitching was strong on both sides. Shelby Martin struck out eight, while Harder sat down six.

North Dakota State College of Science fired up the offense in the second inning, when Towle hit a solo homer. Dawson knotted the game up at one in the bottom of the fifth inning. An error scored one run for Dawson. Martin was in the pitcher’s circle for Dawson. She allowed three hits and one run over seven innings, striking out eight and walking one.

Dawson tallied one home run on the day. Tingey put one out in the sixth inning. Reannon Justice went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Dawson in hits. Lady Buccaneers was sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error. Maycen O’Neal made the most plays with eight.

Coach LeProwse had this to say, “This was a great win for our softball team. We faced a very good pitcher and were able to come out on top. I always have faith in what my team can do when we are faced with a challenge. Someone always steps up and does something great and Ashlyn Tingey did just that by sparking us with a home run late in the game.”

Alexa Throws Shutout as Dawson Softball Defeats

NDSCS 8-0

Alexa Kappel threw a shutout to lead Dawson Softball past NDSCS 8-0 on Saturday. A double by Towle in the third inning was a positive for North Dakota Science.

Kappel led things off in the pitcher’s circle for Dawson. She surrendered zero runs on two hits over six innings, striking out three and walking one.

The Lady Buccaneers tallied one home run on the day. April Davis went for the long ball in the second inning. Dawson racked up 12 hits. Hadley Bennett, Jordyn O’Neal, Reannon Justice, Trinity Anderson, and Ashlyn Tingey each racked up multiple hits for Dawson. Tingey, Anderson, Justice, O’Neal, and Bennett each managed two hits to lead the Lady Bucs.

Coach LeProwse said, “We hit the ball much better in this game and were able to win by the run rule and end this one early. Alexa Kappel had another outstanding outing in the circle and ran her win total to 8-0. When our pitchers throw this well, we are tough to beat.”

Four RBI Day for Maycen

O’Neal in Dawson’s

Victory Over NDSCS 17-4

Maycen O’Neal was an RBI machine on Sunday, driving in four on two hits to lead Dawson Community College past North Dakota State College of Science 17-4 on Sunday. O’Neal drove in runs on a home run in the second. Dawson fired up the offense in the first inning, when April Davis drew a walk, scoring one run. Lady Bucs put up seven runs in the third inning. Dawson offense in the inning was led by Shelby Martin, Hadley Bennett, Reannon Justice, and Martin, all driving in runs in the frame. Martin led things off in the circle for Dawson. She lasted five innings, allowing five hits and four runs while striking out eight and walking one.

The Lady Buccaneers launched two home runs on the day. Martin went yard in the third inning. O’Neal went for the long ball in the second inning. Dawson tallied 18 hits on the day. Jordyn O’Neal, Bennett, Trinity Anderson, Kylee Hergenrider, O’Neal, and Martin all collected multiple hits for Dawson. Bennett and O’Neal each collected three hits to lead Dawson.

LeProwse said, “We hit the ball extremely well in this game and were able to close it out early. We definitely displayed our power once again and came out with another win. Shelby Martin threw very well in the circle for us and kept the score low allowing us to win this one by the run rule.”

DCC Claims Lead in Fifth

Inning to Defeat

Dawson Softball nabbed the lead late in the game in a 2-1 victory over North Dakota on Sunday. The game was tied at one with Dawson batting in the top of the fifth when Jordyn O’Neal singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run. The pitching was strong on both sides. Alexa Kappel struck out five, while Harder sat down seven. Dawson knotted the game up at one in the top of the fourth inning, when Alison Ellertson hit a solo homer. Kappel got the start for Dawson. She surrendered one run on nine hits over seven innings, striking out five.

Lady Bucs hit one home run on the day. Ali Ellertson had a four bagger in the fourth inning. Trinity Anderson went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Dawson in hits. North Dakota Science had nine hits in the game.

“This was a great allaround game,”LeProwse said. “NDSCS out hit us in this one, but we were still able to come out on top. We did a great job of limiting their scoring opportunities when they had runners on base. NDSCS is a very well coached program and has some very good players on their roster, so I feel very fortunate to come out of this weekend with four wins. We are now sitting at 26-2 and we will start preparing for our conference games against Williston State College this week.”
