Elizabeth Catherine (Betty) Kuntz, age 87, of Billings, formerly of Glendive, passed away on Friday, June 21, 2019 at the Billings Clinic in Billings.

Betty was born on April 1, 1932 in Lefor, N.D. She was one of seven children born to Henry and Catherine Hollinger. Betty married Simon (Sam) Kuntz on February 14, 1949. They lived in North Dakota until they moved to Glendive in 1954 where they raised their five children: Gary Kuntz, Karen Kuntz O’Dell, Beverly Kuntz Whiting, Joanne Kuntz and Val Kuntz.

Betty was a devoted wife and mother, balancing work and family. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glendive and belonged to Catholic Daughters of the Americas. She served as den mother for her children’s Cub, Boy and Girl Scout troops. Always present and serving in one way or another at her children’s school and after school activities throughout the years. Betty and Sam were members of the Elks Lodge in Glendive where she served as President three times of the BPO Does, as well as holding other positions through the years. When her children were young she worked as a bookkeeper for several local businesses. After Sam passed away she worked at Action for Eastern Montana as a receptionist. She worked for Green Thumb as a case worker, helping older workers find employment in six counties. Betty also volunteered as a senior companion for twelve years, helping to take care of at-risk seniors. It was during this time that she received the President George H.W. Bush Points of Light award for volunteering over 1,200 hours.

Betty loved her family fiercely. She had a way of making everyone, family, friend and stranger, feel special. She had a contagious smile and a grateful heart. She found joy in the simple things in life. She enjoyed sewing and quilting, listening to music, watching The Price is Right, playing cards and even participating in a good old-fashioned water balloon fight with her kids from time to time. She was also a diehard football fan and looked forward to each new season with great anticipation. Of course, she was happiest when her family was gathered together and in her later years you could witness the love on her face that she had for each and every one of us.

In addition to her five children, she had two sons-inlaw, one daughter-in-law, five grandchildren, as well as five great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband Sam who passed away in 1988 and son Gary who passed away in 2012.

Her family loved and adored her and her absence will be profound. We will forever be grateful to you, mom, for the love you showed to us and to others. We find joy in our memories and comfort in our hearts knowing that you are home safe and in the loving arms of our Lord and Savior.

Silha Funeral Home of Glendive has been entrusted with the arrangements.

A memorial service will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glendive on Friday, July 26, 2019 at 1:30 p.m. A reception for family and friends will follow immediately after the service in the basement of the church. The burial service will be at the Dawson County Cemetery following the reception.

The family is requesting that in lieu of flowers donations be made in Betty’s honor to Action for Eastern Montana Senior Companion Program P.O. Box 1309 Glendive, MT 59330.
