The Dawson County High School wrestling team competed in the Eastern A Divisional Wrestling Touranmetn on Saturday in Miles City and qualified five wrestlers for the state tournament.

Junior Nelson Crisafulli at 170 pounds and senior Keegan Mires at heavyweight both took first place in their respective weight classes.

Coach Garret Tennant was extremely pleased with those two victories.

Both championship matches were very close. Crisafulli won his match 6-4 over opponent Trevor Dean, a senior from Sidney. Mires won his match 3-1 over Sidney wrestler Brodey Skogen.

Also going to state representing the Red Devils is Brennan Payne, a freshman at 103 lbs; Jace Kassner, a freshman at 113 pounds; and Kirby Basta, a junior at 205 pounds.

Basta forfeited the fifth/ sixth place match at Divisional with a shoulder injury but is expected to compete at state.

Also competing at Divisionals for the Red Devils were Mason Whitmer, Calob Grigsby and Cody Harrington.

Tennant believes that DCHS needs to approach the state tournament the same way as they did divisionals.

“Just prepare how we did last week. In practice the intensity has got to be picked up. We might have shorter practices but they’re to the point and intense,” Tennant said.

The wrestlers leave Thursday for the two-day state tournament in Billings. The tournaments is the 30th annual All-Class State Wresting Tournament held at Rimrock Auto Arena.
