Frank Legato, age 70, passed away on Saturday, June 1, 2019 at St. Vincent Healthcare in Billings.

Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, June 7, 2019 at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Glendive with Jim Reynolds officiating. Interment will follow in the Dawson County Cemetery in Glendive. Silha Funeral Home of Glendive has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Frank was born on November 4, 1948 in Miles City, a son of Norman and Albina “Beenie” (Vetter) Legato. He was raised and educated in Glendive, graduating from Dawson County High School with the class of 1966. Shortly after high school Frank enlisted in the Army National Guard and served for six years. He attended DCC for awhile before starting his career with Burlington Northern Railroad. While at BN he attended engineer school and then worked as an engineer until his retirement in 2008 after thirty-nine years with the company.

Shortly after starting work at the railroad Frank was united in marriage to Janette Kubesh on April 4, 1970, and to this union two daughters were born: Jennifer and Gina.

During his young adulthood Frank was an avid bow hunter and had belonged to the Makoshika Bowmen. His biggest passion however was cars, and Frank spent countless hours restoring old cars. His most memorable was a complete restoration of a 1966 Ford Fairlane, a car that he had owned since he was a young man. He loved driving his cars, attending car shows, and going on car trips. Frank was a proud and active member of the Badlands Drifters Car Club, and he won a Top 12 award at last year’s show.

Frank will always be remembered for his dry sense of humor and his sarcasm. He always had a sly grin. The Kubesh Family Reunions will never be the same! Frank also held a special place in his heart for his cats, and some would say they even came before his daughters.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Beenie; and one brother, Tim Legato.

Frank is survived by his wife, Janette of Glendive; his daughters, Jennifer Legato (Mark Bagri) of McKinney, Texas, and Gina (Mark) Michael of Sidney; four granddaughters, Paige (Dillon) Kuhbacher, Kara Miller, Kaitlin Michael, and Kelsi Miller; one greatgrandson, Genesis Miller; six siblings, Nancy (Frank) Murphy of Billings, Deb Legato (Brian Reho) of Portland, Ore., Lance Legato of Billings, Mary (Bill) Haratyk of Sheridan, Wyo., Troy Legato of Glendive, and Tani Walker of Billings; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws.
