Glendive native vying for 2019 Miss Montana title

Kristy Cullinan, 20, a sophomore at Northwest College and DCHS graduate will be back for her second Miss Montana competition. She won the $1000 Miss America State Award for Academic Achievement last year.

She will be sing Bridge Over Troupled Waters acapella for the talent portion. She has performed in Carnagie Hall and at the National Jazz Conference in Texas. At college this beautiful voice is majoring in natural resource law enforcement and hopes to be a Montana game warden.

Daughter of Laurie Cullinan and Bill Cullinan of Glendive, Kristy has been active in 4-H, Trading Card Kids, drama club and assistant student director of school musical.

“I was raised on a farm and taught how to work hard for the things I wanted,” she said. She was a music work study at NW College and worked as a wrangler at the Bill Cody Ranch while at college.

The Miss Montana Scholarship Program and the Miss Montana’s Outstanding Teen competition are held concurrently in the DCHS auditorium June 20-22 in Glendive at 7 p.m. nightly. It’s the 70th Miss Montana pageant and the 15th year in Glendive. Each contestant receives at least $950 in scholarships, in addition to leadership skills and lifelong friendships.

The public can vote for their favorite Miss and Teen online at The winner advances to be a finalist and win a scholarship as the judges narrow their selection.

Friday at 1PM is the Show Us Your Shoes Parade in downtown Glendive and Saturday at 1PM a Royal Tea where the contestants will be modeling fashions from the tea sponsor The VINT. Miss Montana’s Outstanding Teen will be crowned Friday June 21 followed by a gala of music and food sponsored by Cape Air at the Eastern Plains Event Center, 313 S, Merrill.

Miss Montana Competition continues Saturday June 22 at 7 p.m. with the finalists and the Montana’s Choice announced and the judging begins anew. Miss Montana 2019 receives $5100 and represents Montana at the Miss America Competition. $37,000 in cash scholarships and more in prizes and applied acholarships are available to the 13 Outstanding Teen and 11 Miss Montana contestants.

Competing to be Miss Montana’s Outstanding Teen now held by Cammy Heck of Sidney are Violet Anderson of Polson, Taitlyn Berry of Glendive, Alissa Bohle -Plevna, Simonne Clay-Billings, Tymber Jensen –Absarokee, Liliana Johnson – Sidney, Marrin Kolczak-Hardy – Missoula; Karsen Murphy-Glendive; Sloan Orrell-Belgrade; Eden Paressini-Billings; Grace Peoples-Wibaux; Jessica Romo-Sidney and Jessica Steele of.
