Some more of the early people that came into the Hodges area, they were the Lihen family. Rasmus Lihen was born in 1854 and came here from Norway in 1889. They first settled in South Dakota from there moved to Grand Forks, then to Washington. He later moved to Medora, N.D. where he was employed on the section. In 1896, they moved near Hodges. They moved to a farmstead located seven miles southwest of Wibaux. Where he exercised squatter’s rights. Where this piece of land was surveyed for a homestead. Their children were Thomas born Nov. 17, 1877, Hans born July 12, 1888, Joe born 1882 and Nels born 1885 all were born in Norway. Marie the mother died in 1941 and Rasmus in 1922.

-----Most of the thousands of people that came to America. They came through Canada, New York and other places. They were poor and looking for a better life and made a place for themselves and their families. They were never separated from their children. They were hard working people just wanting a better life.
