Eighteen students of LaDonna’s School of Dance represented Montana at Dance Excellence in Los Angeles last month. This is the fifth time La-Donna’s studio has attended the festival.

LaDonna’s Dance studio was chosen as the delegates to represent the state of Montana at Dance Excellence. Dance Excellence is an international dance festival which was held April 14-19 in Los Angeles, Calif. Their mission is to inspire dancers and teachers from around the world to fulfill their artistic dreams and goals through education, performance, and friendship.

LaDonna’s dancers who attended the festival included Kjersten Rieger, Karsen Murphy, Ashley Reynolds, Madison Ralston, Grace Peoples, Lily Olmstead, Taitlyn Berry, Ramey Coon, Abby Barnick, Tiawna Kinn, Jaeda Lantis, Sari Murphy, Emma Buckley, Alyssa Reynolds, Molly Basta, Braelyn Diegel, Ellie Peoples, and Maysa Murphy.

This is the 5th year that LaDonna’s Dance has attended the festival which has brought together over 15,000 dancers, 30 countries, and 400 studios since 1992. The dancers attending spent 30 hours in master classes with the top professionals in the industry. Classes included all styles of dance from African, musical theatre, hip hop, improvisation, performance, tap, ballet and contemporary. The mothers attending were also able to take their own tap, hip hop and pilates classes.

Kjersten and Karsen were chosen from the studio to be part of the company dancers. This opportunity offered them extra training with Bill and Robyn Brawley and the Young Americans, and showcased their talents with a performance for a red-carpet awards gala. The dancers spent many hours in the studio prior to the festival working on a production number, Space Odyssey, which they performed at the Fantasyland Theatre in Disneyland.

The final day of the festival was for International Performance Boards where the senior groups performed a lyrical dance to “You Say," and a tap dance to “Human”. The junior group performed a musical theater dance to “Beauty School Drop Out”.

All of the dancers’ performances were rated as “Excellent”; the highest rating. The dancers and mothers were also treated to a night at the Pantages Theatre in Hollywood for the musical “Fiddler on the Roof.”

LaDonna’s Dancers is thankful for members of the community who contributed to fundraising efforts over the past few years. This opportunity would not have been possible without the community’s generous support.
