The Lady Red Devils celebrate after their win over Havre Friday afternoon. The win earned the team a spot at the Class A State Volleyball Tournament in Bozeman this weekend.

With a fourth place finish at the Eastern A Divisional Volleyball Tournament, the Dawson County High School Lady Devils advance to compete in the State Tournament in Bozeman.

DCHS played four very talented teams in the Divisional tournament, two of which, Belgrade and Hardin, will join DCHS in the State Tournament.

The Lady Red Devils came out strong in their first game beating Fergus in three sets. Everything was firing on all cylinders as they served the ball and played well on defense. The team had 11 aces total while Bailey Pearcy and Meadow Torres each had 3 a piece.

They then ran into the Belgrade Panthers on Friday. Belgrade handed DCHS its first loss of the tournament in three sets as the No. 1 ranked Panthers racked up 12 aces and 32 kills in the match. Bailey Christensen led the charge with 12 kills and 5 aces while her sister Taylor Christensen racked up 15 of the teams 45 digs.

DCHS had to bounce back quick in their match with Havre. Coach Tiffaney Egan said her players had a different feeling going into that game than the prior two.

“Before the game there was a little bit of nervousness, but it was a healthy nervous,” Egan said.

Egan said she felt this made the team more focused. DCHS came out with a lot of passion in this game and won in three sets.

“The girls really love to get excited and I love that. ... It’s kind of one of their strengths,” Egan said.

In their final game the Lady Devils played a red hot Hardin team.

Hardin played well defensively throughout the whole tournament. In their first match against Billings Central the team collected 107 digs. DCHS came out hot in the first set and were able to win it. Hardin then bounced back to win the next three sets and solidify DCHS’ fourth place finish in the east.

The Glendive coach said it’s a little disheartening to finish in fourth when they felt like they had the potential to place higher. She also noted she is happy with the outcome and is looking forward to competing in Bozeman at the State Tournament.

During the summer the majority of the Lady Red Devils went to Montana State’s volleyball camp. Egan said this was a good experience and it also gave them an opportunity to play on the court where state will be held.

This week DCHS will make their second consecutive state tournament appearance. They look to build on what they accomplished last season Egan says.

“I’ve always told them they have to have experience to be successful at the state level,” Egan said.

Egan feels like the experience the Lady Red Devils gained at state last year will be beneficial this time around.

“We have a little bit more focus, we got some stronger gym stamina compared to last time going to state. They’re ready and excited. They know what they’re getting into,” Egan said.

DCHS will face the Corvallis Blue Devils in their first match Thursday morning. Corvallis is the No. 1 ranked team out of the west. Egan said her team will need to remain focused and fire on all cylinders during this match.
