Legislative Reports - the road to Hell Creek

Sunday, June 17, 2018

Representative Ken Holmlund

I am excited and proud to announce that the gravel has been put down on the road to Hell Creek and, for the most part, it is in excellent shape. The places that require more work will be addressed by the Garfield County’s road department. Most of those places are due to soft spots in the base.

A big thank you has to go out to the contractors that have gone above and beyond to get this job done. Some have done so while sacrificing their profits by working to make the job as good as it could be. The major contractors were Echart Trucking, Century Construction and Prince Construction. Garfield County deserves a special thank you for their commitment to the project and that will continue for years to come.

If you, or someone you know, is planning on a trip to Hell Creek, please keep your speed to no more than 35 MPH. Speed is our biggest enemy and if the mindset of drivers is to go fast because the road is smooth, it will not last. Please help us help you.

If you are pulling a train of camper and boat behind your truck, please shift into four wheel drive when pulling the hills. This is a big factor when keeping the washboards from forming on the road and no one likes washboards.

If you want more information or would like to comment on the project, please contact me at 406-951-6764 or text me at the same number. I would especially like your comments when you have been on the road after the gravel was laid down.
