Mark Nelson, age 72, of Glendive passed away September 10, 2018, at St. Vincent Hospital in Billings due to lymph cancer.

He was born to Morris and Sylvia (Whitmer) Nelson on January 15, 1946 in Glendive. When he was young he enjoyed farm life, particularly the tractors and combines. After his education in Glendive, Mark moved to Oklahoma City where he worked at various grocery stores. He returned to Montana after his father had a stroke. Mark worked at Buttreys and attended Dawson College while helping on the farm. The last Montana draft took him into the U.S. Army. When he got back he purchased a blue Chevy pick-up from his cousin Bob Whitmer, which he drove and took care of for many years. When the farm was sold, Mark moved into West Glendive. He enjoyed movies and visiting the library. In recent years he enjoyed Glendive Toastmasters, particularly his mentor Jim Squires.

Mark was preceded in death by his parents and all of his Whitmer and Hagen uncles and aunts, except his aunt, Dixie Whitmer.

Survivors include his sister, Rosalie (Ellis) Wyman; and nieces, Laura Drager, Becky Reinhardt and Brenda Wyman all of Billings, and Neva Pazos of Loxahatchee, Fla. He also had nine grand nieces and nephews; 18 great-grand nieces and nephews; and numerous cousins. Special friends Mary Bukoski and Paul Nelson were very good to him the last few years.

Central Montana Crematorium was in charge of cremation. A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 29, 2018 at the Glendive Senior Citizens Center at 1 p.m. Interment will be in the Military Section of the Dawson County Cemetery on the hill.
