Mass shooters are not ‘gun lovers’

Dear Editor:

I’m responding to the article written by “Writers on the Range” author Michael Baughman where he opines that the NRA doesn’t represent all gun lovers. In one respect he’s right that all people who own guns are not members of the National Rifle Association but he’s either ignorant or stupid if he doesn’t realize that all gun owners are represented by the NRA whether they belong to the organization or not. How long do you think the 2nd Amendment’s “Right to Keep and Bear Arms” would be intact if the likes of Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi had the freedom to abolish it or make it meaningless just like the 10th Amendment is concerning state’s rights. Also, his call for “rational gun laws” is nothing more than code for “gun control” as the city of Chicago has “rational gun laws” and remains the murder capitol of the United States! His anecdotal argument that hunters he knows don’t support the NRA sounds “made up” or the friends that he hunts with are as uninformed, on this topic, as he is. Baughman and his buddies would be hunting with “bows and arrows” without the NRA’s fight for our constitutional right to defend ourselves. Which brings me to my last point and Michael Baughman’s biggest errors. Turkey hunting has nothing to do with the 2nd Amendment and these “crazies” who perpetrate these mass shootings are not “gun lovers” because if they were they would have respect for the weapon and its intended use. These “nuts” are using guns the same way they would use a bomb to commit these atrocities and the NRA is no more to blame for this than my car is if I chose to drive over the posted “speed limit.”
