Caroline Coovart started her position at the new Jefferson Elementary School principal last week

Jefferson School students will be greeted by a new principal when they return to school this year as Glendive Public Schools welcomes Caroline Coovart to the position.

Originally from rural Missouri, Coovart and her husband came to Glendive after meeting superintendent Stephan Schreibeis earlier this spring. Coovart said that in her conversation with Schreibeis, she learned the history of the school and the town and fell in love with the district.

“I heard the history and about how the town is changing and growing and I want to be a part of that,” Coovart said.

Coovart graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree from Kansas State University, a Master’s Degree from Rockhearst University in Kansas City, Miss. and a Specialized Degree in Education Leadership from Arkansas State University. She has previously taught second and fourth grade students in STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and math) schools and has most recently spent the last three years in Kalispell working in informational technology.

As principal, Coovart said she is excited to get to help the teachers achieve their classroom goals, noting that helping the teachers is the best way to help the students.

“I’m excited to figure out how to best support the teachers and learn all the awesome things going on in the school,” Coovart said.

For the students, Coovart said her number one rule is for them is to learn how to be good people, as it takes more than just academics to be successful.

“Learning is more than just academics, it’s learning how to be good people too,” she said.
