Freshman Cole Storlie pole vaulted 11 feet for fifth place at the Wibaux Invitational Tourney held at Perham Field.

The Dawson County High School track team competed in two events over the course of the weekend. First coach Tom Temple took a small amount of athletes to Spearfish, S.D. Then the team competed in the Wibaux Invite the following day.

In Spearfish while the number of athletes were few, the success was plentiful. Logan Phipps pole vaulted 13 feet which was good enough for second place and to qualify for state. Tiana Carney improved her season record in pole vault with a vault of 9’9”.

With a state qualifying throw of 48’2” Reed Cooley placed second in shot put. While his sister Emily Cooley also qualified in high jump with a jump of 5 feet. Savannah Tom’s throw of 35’2” was good enough to qualify her in shot put.

Karsen Murphy had the moment of the day. Temple said her “impressively easy clearance” of 5’5” in high jump was fun to witness. The jump set a new DCHS record for the event.

They then returned for the Wibaux Invite which Temple said provided a good opportunity for the DCHS track teams.

“The Wibaux Invite led to many improvements and efforts in marks for many young Red Devil tracksters,” Temple said.

Cole Storlie was one of those youngsters who bettered himself. His 11 foot pole vault was good enough for fifth place. Parker Buckley ran a 56 second 400 meter dash. On the girls side of things Ryleigh Mittlestaed and Mikah James both stood out in their respective events.

DCHS will be in Baker next weekend and Temple is excited to watch these athletes keep improving.
