Backroads of Montana host William Marcus visits with members of the Glendive Medical Center Auxiliary during filming of the program. The Attic will be featured on the May 14 episode of the show on PBS.

Sometimes opportunities just fall in your lap. That is what happened a month ago when William Marcus of the hit PBS show, “Backroads of Montana” contacted Glendive Medical Center about doing a feature on the Attic. They had heard about the success of a small town thrift store and the philanthropic mission it carried over many years to help bring medical equipment to the hospital and the community it serves.

“Opportunities like this don’t happen every day,” exclaimed Jaime Shanks, Marketing Director and interim Volunteer Coordinator, “I called the Auxiliary board members to let them know the producer of the show wanted to do a feature on The Attic and they were thrilled!”

The crew showed up the morning of April 12 and filmed for several hours while customers came and went as usual. William, the host of the show, worked alongside the Auxiliary ladies and had an opportunity to interview one of the founding members, Rita McGovern, who came back from Billings for this special opportunity.

The day the crew wanted to film couldn’t have been more perfectly timed. They joined the Auxiliary, the public, and GMC staff at the open house for the new mammography machine, which was graciously paid for in part by the Auxiliary. Viewers of the show will have a chance to see the full circle effect of how the Auxiliary’s efforts to help raise money provide stateof-the-art medical equipment for our community.

You can see the Attic special on PBS, Monday, May 14 at 8 p.m.
