Softball team earns two conference wins

The Dawson County High School softball team came away with two victories against Laurel and Billings Central this weekend. These wins were big coming down the stretch of the regular season and the Lady Red Devils had some standout performances. In the first game Friday against Laurel, the Lady Red Devils could not stop the explosive offense of Laurel in the first two innings. Laurel put up three runs in the first and poured in another five during the second. DCHS was then able to stop Laurel from scoring the next three innings while finding an offensive groove themselves. After battling back to a tie at 10-10 in the bottom of the seventh inning, Courtney Nagle stepped up to the plate and with a base knock brought the speedy Meadow Torres in for the winning run. “One of the strengths of this team is they never give up. They have battled back quite a few times this year when they were down and they play all the way through the 7th inning,” Coach Sarah Cobb said. To follow up the Laurel game they faced Billings Central and the offensive explosion continued for the Lady Red Devils. DCHS scored 7 early runs in the first two innings and never looked back. They tallied 15 hits on the game and poured in 13 runs to defeat Billings Central 13-5. Ryelle Boehning pitched a solid game from the mound. She allowed only 8 hits while striking out 6 batters. DCHS will play three games this week wrapping things up in Hardin on Thursday. They then follow that up next week in Butte with the Laverne Combo Tournament on Friday and Saturday before heading to Divisionals.
