Dawson Days will fill weekend with activities

The Miss Volunteer Montana competition Thursday night will kick off four days of events and activities as part of Dawson Days planned to bring together several non-profit organizations in a fun-filled weekend.

The pageant shows will begin at 7 p.m. nightly Thursday-Saturday in the Dawson County High School auditorium.

Friday at 1 p.m., the public is invited to catch the Miss Volunteer Montana parade down Merrill Avenue. An ice cream social will be offered in Our Park following the parade.

On Friday, the Friends of Makoshika will host family fun disc golf and a corn hole tournament with both events beginning at 5:30 p.m. Concessions, including local craft beer, will be available at the Kiwanis Pavillion in Makoshika.

At dusk, the movie “Night at the Museum” will be shown under the stars at the amphitheater in the park.

On Saturday, the Makoshika Wellness Tri-Fun .21, a triathlon featuring kayaking on the river, a bike ride through the badlands and a run through Glendive ending at Eyer Park, will take place. Kayaks will launch from the Glendive boat dock off of River Avenue at 7 a.m.

The Tri-Fun cycle portion of the race will end in the EPEC parking lot where the run leg of the race will begin. Stop by and see the switch off and check out the Saturday farmers market in the parking lot which will take place from 9 a.m. until noon.

Vendors, food trucks and breweries will be set up in Eyer Park for the annual Bell Street Bridge Day beginning at 9 a.m. Members of the community are encouraged to come enjoy the festivities while they cheer on the Tri-Fun participants at the finish line. The daytime event will culminate with the rubber duck race from the Black Bridge to the Bell Street Bridge at 4 p.m.

The Shine and Show Car Show will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Uran Center. There is no entry fee. Local car enthusiasts are encouraged to join the fun.

There will be plenty of opportunities to get some good deals on shopping and enjoy some delicious food over the weekend as well. Businesses throughout the community will be offering Crazy Days sales on Friday and Saturday. The library will host a used book sale to fund raise for a new boiler for the building.

Food vendors will be set up in Makoshika Friday night, at the farmers market Saturday and Bell Street Bridge Day on Saturday.

Bell Street Bridge Day organizers have planned a evening dance with a DJ at 8 p.m. on Saturday.

After a fun-filled few days in Glendive, take in the final event of Dawson Days at the Knights of Columbus pancake and sausage breakfast on Sunday from 9 a.m. until noon at the Knights of Columbus Hall located at 310 N. Kendrick Ave.
