Delaine Ann Helvik, age 90, of Wibaux passed away on Thursday, August 15, 2019 at Glendive Medical Extended Care.

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. on Wednesday, August 21, 2019 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Wibaux. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, August 21, 2019 at Trinity Lutheran Church with Reverend Roger Dieterle officiating. Interment will take place at the Wibaux City Cemetery. Silha Funeral Home of Wibaux has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Delaine was born September 7, 1928 in Alpha, N.D. to Edward and Elizabeth (Sura) Jendro. She was raised and educated in the Alpha, Golva and Beach, N.D. area until the family moved north of Wibaux.

Delaine worked as a waitress in Wibaux and met and later married Alf in 1946. After marrying, she worked at the family grocery store when needed, working more often once the kids were older. They operated Helvik’s Grocery Store for 53 years, retiring in 1991. After retirement Delaine worked at the Wibaux County Nursing Home for several years.

Delaine’s grandchildren were her pride and joy. She loved to bake, read a lot and enjoyed playing cards, especially with her bridge club. Delaine enjoyed doing different arts and crafts, gardening and listening to music. She always put others before herself and was very caring.

Delaine was involved in the Trinity Lutheran Ladies Aid, Wibaux County Nursing Home Auxiliary, Wibaux Ladies Bridge Club, Church Choir, PTA and was a Sunday School teacher.

Delaine was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Elizabeth; her husband, Alf; three brothers; four sisters; and her daughter-in-law, Sandy Helvik.

Delaine is survived by her daughter, Cheryl (Ike) McCaskey of Beach; her sons, Larry (Peggy) Helvik and Kim Helvik, both of Wibaux; a sister, Emajean Chafee of Wibaux; a brother, Jim Jendro of Texarkana, Texas; nine grandchildren; sixteen greatgrandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
