Do we want to give our tax dollars to other counties?
Letter to the Editor:
As we read the articles in the papers and we listen to thoughts and opinions on the radio let us realize one thing, the voters of MT passed HB 701 to Legalize Recreational Marijuana in November of 2020. This law is now in effect for the legal use of Marijuana in every county in MT.
Our legislature has put additional rules in place for the growing and sale of Marijuana across the state. One of these rules being that if the majority of a county’s voters were against legalizing Recreational Marijuana its sale would be prohibited in those counties.
Dawson County voted against it by a relatively small margin and we now once again have the opportunity to vote on its sale within Dawson County. Allowing the sale of Recreational Marijuana will generate much needed tax dollars within our county and our state. We lost the Keystone and are looking at record breaking inflation across the country, we need all the help we can get and allowing the sale of Recreational marijuana in Dawson County will help to supplement our tax coffers and perhaps ease our property tax burden.
Let’s face it folks, it is legal to use Recreational Marijuana across the state of MT and yes even in Dawson County, so do we the residents of Dawson County want to share in these additional tax dollars or let neighboring counties where the sale is going to be legal as of January 1, 2022 collect all the taxes from the sale of Recreational Marijuana?
Thank you,
Melissa Kwasney
