Gerald Watson, age 80, of Glendive, Montana, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2021, at the Glendive Medical Center in Glendive. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2021 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Silha Funeral Home in Glendive, and also on Thursday, Oct. 21, 2021 from 10:00 am until 1:00 pm at Silha Funeral Home in Glendive. A funeral service with military honors will be held on Thursday, Oct. 21, 2021 at 1:00 pm at Silha Funeral Home in Glendive with Reverend Chris Buller officiating. Interment will follow the funeral service in Custer County Cemetery in Miles City. Silha Funeral Home of Glendive has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Gerald R Watson “Jerry” was born Feb. 19, 1941 in Burlingame, Kan., to Ansel E and Iva (Seaman) Watson. He was the 3rd oldest out of 9 children.

He went to school in Brewster, Kan., until they moved to Dove Creek Co. in 1958 where he continued school, until he graduated in 1959.

Gerald enlisted in the Air Force in 1960 to see the world, since he had never left the states. He worked in the missile silos in Kansas until 1964.

Gerald worked as a custom harvester for Ramsey until he moved to Bowman, N.D. in the late 60’s, where he worked at Bills Standard gas station. He was a regular customer at Gene Restaurant where he met his future wife, Cheryl Egge.

Gerald and Cheryl were married Aug. 10, 1969 in Miles City, Montana and continued to live in Bowman, North Dakota until 1971. Then, they moved to Miles City, where the oldest of their 3 children, Ryan, was born on Sept. 15, 1971. In 1972, they moved to Roundup, Montana, where Gerald worked in the oil field. During his time working in the oil field, they lived in several towns in Wyoming including Douglas, where the second of their 3 children, Robbie, was born on May 9, 1975.

In 1979, Gerald moved his family to Glendive, Montana, where he began working for BN Railroad in May of 1979, until he was laid off in 1981. At that time, Gerald worked for Sun Transport. On Jan. 14, 1982, they welcomed the last of their 3 children, Richard.

Gerald was called back with BN Railroad in 1984 where he enjoyed work, until he retired in 2006 after 27 years.

Gerald enjoyed his retirement by working in his yard and garden. Gerald also had a love for agates and picking on his wife of 52 years.

Gerald is preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers, Tom and Gaul Watson.

Gerald is survived by his wife Cheryl (Egge) Watson, children Ryan (Mariza) Watson, Robbie (Justin) Beery, and Richard Watson. He is also survived by his brothers John (Katy) Watson of California, Gary (Sherri) Watson of Missouri, sister Darlene (Jack) Pangman of Kansas, Wanda (Jerry) Brewster of Washington, Chris (Eugene) Fincher of New Mexico, and Dolores Watson of Colorado, three grandchildren Kalynn Watson (Robbie & Justin), Kiana Watson (Ryan & Mariza) and Breaden Welch (Richard), and one great granddaughter Davina (Kalynn).
