Kristin was born May 3, 1980 in Elmhurst, Ill., to Rev. Paul and Cheryl Shoemaker. In 1981 the family moved to Frankenmuth, Mich. and in 1989 to New Haven, where Kristin’s father was called to serve as pastor at Emanuel Lutheran Church. Kristin was a talented flute player and regularly performed for church services.

Kristin graduated from Concordia Lutheran High School, Fort Wayne, in 1998 as valedictorian of her class. In 2001 she completed her Bachelors of Science in Business Administration at Valparaiso University majoring in finance. Kristin’s career began at LaSalle Bank in downtown Chicago. She was soon recruited to serve as CFO of Remodelers Supply Center in Chicago.

In 2005 romance returned Kristin to Fort Wayne to marry Travis Corneliusen, an old college friend from Valpo. After briefly working for Wells Fargo Business Banking in Fort Wayne, Kristin soon transferred back to Chicago. For the next decade the Printers Row neighborhood was home for Kristin, Travis and Goliath the miniature dachshund. Kristin would make the daily walk through the windy city to the Wells Fargo Capital Finance offices working first in treasury management and later in cross sell to coordinate with other divisions of the bank. In 2014 she was recognized as a top performer and Golden Spoke award winner at Wells Fargo.

Much to the surprise of family, friends and co-workers Kristin said goodbye to her successful professional life in 2015. Her next years alternated between helping family and friends, traveling with her husband, and battling breast cancer. Some days were spent helping care for her grandmother in hospice or a family member recovering from the hospital, others driving a friend’s Great Dane from L.A. to Chicago. Three months traveling Europe, a few months in Mexico, visits to her in-law’s farm in Glendive, and time surrounded by the children of friends and her nephews, she loved them all.

Kristin was preceded in death by grandparents Elmer Recksiedler, Elaine Recksiedler, Paul Shoemaker Sr. and brother David Shoemaker.

She is survived by her husband Travis Corneliusen, parents Paul and Cheryl Shoemaker, brother Jonathan (Rochelle) Shoemaker, sister Jennifer Mitting, grandmother Joan Shoemaker and four nephews.

Before her death Kristin requested that, in lieu of flowers, memorials be directed to friends of the congregation who began a ministry rescuing children from the Kibera slums of Kenya. Their organization has grown into Point of Grace Academy - an orphanage, primary and secondary school on the shores of Lake Victoria, Kenya now caring for over 700 orphans.
