The Lady Red Devils took an early lead and never looked back in their 55-37 win over the Fergus County Lady Eagles on Saturday in Lewistown.

We really seem to be settling in offensively. The girls are doing a good job sharing the basketball and scoring within our offense,” Coach Kayla Rivas said.

Senior Savannah Toms led the team with 17 points, followed by senior Karsen Murphy with 16.

The Lady Devils were 59% from field goal range, 44% behind the arc and 47% at the free throw line. Fergus shot 36%, 27% and 33% respectively.

The Lady Devils pulled down 28 rebounds compared to the Lady Eagles’ 19.

“I still think we may be allowing too many points defensively so our goals this week will be defending the entry passes so it is not quite as easy for teams to get into offense against us. We will also continue working on our conditioning so we can pick up teams in the full court. We have seen firsthand how easy our offense comes when we are more intense defensively,” Rivas noted.

The win brings the Lady Devils overall record to 5-3 and conference record to 2-1. Havre leads the Southeast A Conference with a 4-0 record, followed by Dawson and Sidney with 2-1, Fergus at 2-3 and Miles City at 0-5.

“We have had a really good stretch the last few weeks but need to really make sure we are staying focused as we have a tough stretch coming up with a big conference game Thursday and then we will play No. 1 and No. 2 in the state throughout the following week – games we are very much looking forward to,” Rivas said.

The Lady Red Devils travel to Sidney Thursday and will host Billings Central at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
