Laurel Anntonio Toomey, age 72, of Glendive passed away on Monday, Jan. 4, 2021 at the Glendive Medical Center due to complications from a long battle with Multiple Sclerosis.

Visitation was held Thursday, Jan. 7, 2021 at the Silha Funeral Home in Glendive. Private funeral services will be held. Silha Funeral Home of Glendive has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Laurel was born on Sept. 7, 1948 in Glendive, the firstborn daughter of Merrick and Lorraine (Knudson) Benes. She was raised and educated in Richey and graduated high school with the class of 1966. Following her high school education, she went on to graduate from a beauty school in Miles City. She then moved to Lewistown where she worked at a local beauty shop where she met Tom Toomey. Laurel and Tom were united in marriage on Aug. 9, 1969 in Richey and to this union three children were born. Laurel and Tom moved around a bit from Lewistown to Mississippi and North Dakota until Tom retired from the Air Force in 1976. At that time they made their home in Glendive where they have resided since.

Laurel enjoyed shopping and visiting with friends and family. Her favorite time was always time spent with her children and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father, Merrick Benes; one son, Ryan; and one sister, Debbie Novak.

Laurel is survived by her husband, Tom of Glendive; two daughters, Jennifer (David) Toomey-Stoner of Glendive; and Melissa (Patrick) Skillestad of Glendive; her mother, Lorraine Benes of Glendive; six grandchildren, Averie, Brecken, Jack, Julia, Olivia, and Sloane; one sister, LaDonna (Kim) Benes of Richey; and numerous nieces and nephews.
