Loni Rae Pettersen-Hanzlik was called home to her Lord on Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2021, culminating a long and valiantly fought battle with Parkinson’s Disease. She left a permanent mark on the world, fighting without complaint, always with a positive outlook, and now rests peacefully watching over her family.

Loni was born in Monterey Bay, Calif. to Lavern Roger Pettersen (who she will meet in heaven) and JoAnn Martha Pettersen. Loni was the first born and she was loved from her first moment in this world. Her brother, Bradley Pettersen (daughter - Rilee), joined their happy family three years later. The Pettersens moved around Glendive for much of Loni’s early life, a habit she carried on throughout her stays in Arizona, California, Utah and Montana. Loni raised two children, Jason Hanzlik (Michelle) and Amanda Hoskins (Brandon), who she loved dearly and they mourn her greatly.

Loni grew up barrel racing and always loved horses. She enjoyed spending time with family, golfing, skiing and traveling with friends. She also shared her love with her dogs, who were always spoiled and well fed. Loni’s smile and love for life was infectious. She became fast friends with anyone she met and had a large circle of caring and meaningful friendships.

While Loni lost the physical ability to do much of what she loved in her later years, she maintained her positive outlook and desire to share her smile with everyone she loved. She adored her granddaughter, London Hoskins, and imparted her kind-hearted rebellious nature on her, as well as her love of sweets. Loni looked forward to meeting her new granddaughter in a couple months, but she will undoubtedly be her guardian angel. Loni loved many people who will mourn her, and she often remarked how blessed and loved she was by her friends and family.

A funeral will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2021 in Glendive at Glendive Alliance Church at 10 a.m. A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, Sept. 16, 2021 in Billings at the Fieldhouse at 5:30 p.m. Silha Funeral Home of Glendive has been entrusted with the local arrangements. Remembrances and condolences can be shared with the family at www.silhafuneralhomes.com. Donations in her honor can be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation and the Yellowstone Valley Animal Shelter.
