Jean (Schlicht) Smith passed away peacefully in her home in Missoula on Jan. 24, 2023 after a valiant battle with cancer.

Born Feb. 2, 1938 in Glendive, Jean was the daughter of Bartly and Leta Schlicht. She graduated from Dawson County High School in Glendive in 1956.

Jean went on to further her education at the University of Montana, graduating in 1960. After attaining her degree, Jean moved to California, where she worked for the San Diego County Probation Department in Juvenile Supervision. While in California, Jean met and married Mack Smith.

Jean retired as a Senior Probation Officer and Mack retired as a Sergeant in the San Diego County Sheriff’s office working out of the Encinitas substation. After retiring in 1991, they bought a home and settled in Missoula. Jean was active with her PEO group, the Method- ist church and they both were avid supporters of the U of M Arts and Athletic department. GO GRIZ!

Mack preceded Jean in death on Oct. 22, 2022. Jean is loved and survived by her brother, Bob (Jackie) Schlicht of Billings (formerly of Lindsay); two nieces, Vikki Kelley of Hixson, Tenn. and Jayda Woodworth of Billings; numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews; along with many close friends.

In lieu of flowers to the family, memorials can be made to: Glendive United Methodist Church and the University of Missoula Arts & Athletic Departments.
