The Dawson County High School Red Devils came up short in Lewistown Saturday as they lost their second conference game of the season 55-52.

The score was tied going into the fourth quarter and the Red Devils held the lead a few times, but the defensive effort wasn’t enough to keep the Golden Eagles from putting points on the board to take the win.

“I thought for the most part the kids played pretty well. We just had a few defensive lapses in the last couple of minutes and Fergus took advantage of them,” Coach Wade Murphy said.

The DCHS team had a 46 percent field goal percentage, but the team that has relied heavily on its 3-point shooting hit only 4 of 15, or 27 percent, against Fergus.

The Red Devils hit 74 percent of their free throws, compared to Fergus’ 50 percent performance.

“Overall the kids are improving and it’s been a really fun team to watch grow!”Coach Murphy added.

The loss brings the DCHS team’s record to 4-4 overall and 1-2 in the conference.

The Red Devils will travel to Sidney Thursday and to Billings to take on the Billings Central Rams at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
