The Lady Red Devils volleyball team, led by the five seniors, presented a new Dawson County High School sign to the Glendive Unified School Board at their Monday meeting, with a request to replace the aging sign on Merrill Avenue.

The donation was this year’s Leave a Legacy project for the team’s five seniors.

The Lady Red Devils senior class completes a Leave a Legacy project every year and this year’s seniors opted to replace the wooden DCHS sign on Merrill Avenue with a new metal sign.

“Leave a Legacy is something that the seniors of the volleyball team of that year put together that we want to give back to our school and want to improve our school with, so that when we come back that we know that we left that there and it was just a bright and fresh way of leaving our school,” senior Karsen Murphy said.

Ashley Clapp told the board that the team held a car wash to raise money to pay for the sign. Dr. Luke Gambee also contributed to the project.

Kayla Brown said the girls chose to replace the wooden sign to give the front of the district office a fresh look.

Ashley Reynolds noted that the project was determined during the team’s trip to the MSU volleyball camp over the summer.

Senior Meadow Torres was instrumental in designing the new sign. Deer Creek Designs made the sign.

Coach Tiffaney Egan earlier in the season said the team plans to replace other signs in the district as part of upcoming Leave the Legacy projects.

“You guys should be really proud of yourselves,” GUSB trustee Lara Crighton said. “Not everybody is willing to take the time and the hard work to give back when they’re on their way out the door, so I’m really impressed.”
